"Complete in Christ" Colossians 1:25-29
|
Of this church I was made a minister according to the stewardship from God bestowed
on me for your benefit, so that I might fully carry out the preaching of the word of God,
that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has
now been manifested to His saints,
to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery
among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so
that we may present every man complete in Christ.
For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works
within me.
We can see in this passage that our goal should be to have Christ
in You (Complete in Christ). This is our glorious hope! This is
accomplished by the following three things:
1) Naturally proclaiming Christ
2) Warning/admonishing every man
3) Teaching every man.
The mystery in verse 26 is the secret unknown in the Old
Testament times but now known only by divine revelation of the
indwelling of Christ. A mystery in the Bible is not something that is
mysterious, but instead something that is a secret or not know
until it is revealed at a latter time.
The word complete means "mature." This word was used by
mystery religions. What is unique about Christianity, is that ALL
can have wisdom and maturity, not just a select few. The only
requirement is complete trust and faith in the bloodshed, death,
burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:23 &
Ephesians 2:8)
In this passage, we have a commission, "that we may present
every man complete in Christ." This year, we will strive to disciple
believers to fulfill this direct commission by God.
